Acts of sexual violence erodes a victim’s safety, dignity, and self-identity. The survivor of sexual abuse often remains silent and full of shame, guilt and self-hatred. Marred by the tragedies of the abuse, the victim often suffers from depression, suicidal thoughts, post-traumatic stress disorder, addictions, and chronic health conditions. To cope, survivors cut, numb out with substances, recycle the abuse through violent relationships, or strike out at others.
The sexual abuse leaves your client feelings of unworthy and you may be at a loss on how to properly treat them. By only focusing on the symptoms, you may miss what the root of the problem could be– undisclosed sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, difficulties with sexual intimacy or other sexual traumas.
This seminar will provide you with specific knowledge and resources to enhance your capacity to effectively work with survivors of sexual abuse. You will also learn about important similarities as well as differences in the impact and clinical outcomes for men versus women.
Through informed and uplifting didactic exercises, case examples and lectures, you will know how facilitate healthy measures towards recovery and assist in managing sensitive trauma- and drug linked triggers associated with sexual intimacy. You will be provided with the tools and knowledge to facilitate healing for clients traumatized by sexual abuse.
NOTE: Tuition includes one free CE Certificate (participant will be able to print the certificate of completion after completing the on-line post-test (80% passing score) and completing the evaluation).

Through the high-energy, didactic and experiential-based sessions Dr. Tizzano offers, attendees learn about the strategies and resources for mitigating the impact of sexual trauma. Participants come away with an in-depth understanding of the underpinnings of sexual trauma and ties to clinical challenges such as substance abuse and eating disorders. Restorative measures to heal from the treacherous impact of sexual abuse are presented with clarity, vision, and conviction.
Dr. Tizzano received a Ph.D. in Health Education with a specialty in Preventive Medicine from Ohio State University. She is the author of Sanctuary for Change, a 32-hour curriculum on healthy sexual recovery and intimacy for women survivors of sexual trauma.
