NEW DIAGNOSES:
The DSM-5® has removed the Childhood Disorders section and placed the disorders common to children in various sections throughout the manual. In this seminar we will focus on these disorders with special attention to the significant changes that have been introduced.
Walk away from this seminar with the knowledge to view, and treat childhood disorders in two broad domains. Internalizing disorders, such as anxiety and depression, and externalizing disorders which include a range of behavioral problems. As we explore these disorders you will review current evidence-based therapeutic strategies for treatment. This will include attention to the increasing trend of non-suicidal self-harm, which can be a very challenging patient population.
All of these disorders and more will be addressed in a way to explain both the etiology of the disorder and proposed treatment including psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. We will explore the role of attachment in the development of disorders, as well as, research looking at the possible prenatal factors that both cause and predispose mental illnesses. The primary purpose of the day is to greatly increase your understanding of childhood disorders and increase your confidence as you diagnose and treat children. This day is guaranteed to make you a more effective child and adolescent diagnostician and therapist.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Brooks W. Baer, MA, LCPC, LMFT is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has been involved in the mental health field for over 25 years. He has well over 20,000 therapy hours and has conducted over 5,000 diagnostic interviews in emergency department settings.
