  1. Analyze how the neurobiology of trauma informs treatment approach. 
  2. Assess the clinical implications of the freeze response in trauma treatment. 
  3. Differentiate between single incident and complex trauma. 
  4. Analyze the role of memory in trauma and how memory malleability impacts the treatment of clients with traumatic memories.  
  5. Assess for simple and complex trauma using the PCL-5, CAPS-5 and other tools. 
  6. Use bottom-up techniques to increase felt safety in clients. 
  7. Determine when clients are ready for intense trauma work. 
  8. Develop plans for working with crises, resistance and suicidality in clients who’ve experienced trauma.  
  9. Analyze common therapies and evidence-based treatments for trauma.  
  10. Investigate potential risks and limitations of common trauma treatment approaches and techniques.  
  11. Analyze the neurobiology of complex PTSD and dissociation through the lens of polyvagal theory. 
  12. Apply techniques to assist clients in de-escalating trauma associated triggers. 
  13. Employ somatic techniques to reduce client’s body memories, flashbacks and dissociation.  
  14. Use client-driven imagery for safety, protection and containment. 
  15. Analyze Shapiro’s Adaptive Information Processing model as it relates to clinical treatment. 
  16. Evaluate the current status of EMDR therapy’s evidence base in treating PTSD and other psychiatric conditions. 
  17. Analyze the original eight phases of EMDR’s standard protocol as it relates to clinical treatment.  
  18. Practice the skill of resourcing a client with imaginal resources prior to processing traumatic material.  
  19. Use strategies to help clients acquire the requisite skills for self-regulation prior to processing trauma via EMDR. 
  20. Investigate contraindications for utilizing EMDR therapy for trauma treatment.  
  21. Develop EMDR-focused psychoeducational materials to share with your clients. 
  22. Practice using the EMDR protocol to prepare for work with clients in-session. 
  23. Demonstrate specific EMDR skills utilized for processing traumatic memories.  
  24. Analyze the basic principles of Attachment-Focused EMDR and its use in the treatment of childhood and adult trauma.   
  25. Assess clients to determine the appropriateness of using EMDR in virtual sessions. 
  26. Analyze risks associated with virtual EDMR that should be included in a clinician’s informed consent documentation. 
  27. Construct a plan to intervene in crisis level situations when delivering EMDR virtually. 
  28. Use bilateral stimulation techniques via video in the EMDR process. 
  29. Utilize interventions drawn from CBT, EMDR Therapy, Parts Work Therapy, Somatic Psychology, and mind-body therapies for the treatment of Complex PTSD. 
  30. Use strategies to identify and mitigate potential in-session barriers to progress when using the EMDR protocol.
