Module 1: Ericksonian Approaches to Brief Hypnotic Psychotherapy – Fundamental Training

Objectives
Week 1: Fundamentals of Hypnotic Induction: Observational Processes & The Language of Suggestion
- Present the roles of utilization and indirection in the context of the Ericksonian model of brief hypnotic psychotherapy.
- Utilize a variety of truisms as part of the hypnotic language patterns during hypnotic induction of clients.
- Communicate the primary ways the hypnotic constellation is used in hypnotic psychotherapy with clients.
Week 2: Fundamental Induction Continued: The Language of Suggestion
- Articulate specific reasons why indirect and permissive language is effective during the induction phase of hypnotic psychotherapy with clients.
- Appraise the use of the various dimensions of experience in which hypnotic subjects can be absorbed to facilitate the elicitation of trance during hypnotic psychotherapy.
Week 3: Hypnotic Phenomena
- Characterize the hypnotic phenomena according to their effect on creating, deleting, or distorting experiences for clients.
- Determine the manner in which age regression can be utilized in induction with clients to create experiences.
Week 4: Utilization
- Evaluate the ways clinicians can use “utilization” including incorporation, ratification, and positive attribution as the basis of therapeutic trance development with clients.
- Utilize characteristics and resistance in trance induction with clients during hypnotic psychotherapy.
Week 5: The Phenomenology of Hypnosis
- Utilize the phenomenological characteristics of hypnosis to advance trance with a hypnosis client.
- Analyze the ARE method of the Ericksonian Elicitation Model as it applies to hypnotic psychotherapy with clients.
Week 6: The Language of Hypnosis
- Analyze the role of indirect forms of language in facilitating responsiveness to hypnosis in clients.
- Implement paraverbal techniques to enhance the delivery of hypnotic communication during hypnotic psychotherapy.
Week 7: Indirection
- Provide a rationale for the utilization of indirect suggestion techniques in eliciting trace for therapeutic purposes.
- Utilize metaphors and anecdotes in story telling to help clients shift their perspective during hypnotic psychotherapy.
Week 8: Treatment Planning & Integration
- Communicate the indications and contradictions for the clinical use of hypnosis.
- Ascertain the importance of clinical supervision and/or consultation when utilizing hypnosis in psychotherapy.

Objectives
Week 1: ADVANCED PATTERNS OF ERICKSONIAN INDUCTION
- Evaluate various central dynamic hypnotic phenomena during the hypnotic induction phase of hypnotic psychotherapy.
- Employ a hypnotic induction approach in session that emphasizes client control.
Week 2: A PROCESS MODEL OF ERICKSONIAN PSYCHOTHERAPY
- Formulate a realistic goal and treatment plan for a Ericksonian psychotherapy session.
- Implement isomorphic and complementary interventions into a hypnotic session that utilize positive hallucination and age regression to help improve clinical outcomes.
Week 3: TREATMENT PLANNING IN HYPNOSIS
- Develop a thorough assessment plan relevant of hypnotic treatment of clients.
- Present the potential role of hypnotic phenomena in conceptualizing clinical problems.
Week 4: PAIN MANAGEMENT
- Determine three uses of hypnotic phenomena and clinical implications for pain management.
- Practice the elicitation of glove anesthesia in a hypnotic process.
Week 5: HABIT CONTROL
- Employ hypnotic inductions with clients to help improve smoking cessation outcomes.
- Develop a treatment plan for habit control that includes hypnosis.
Week 6: TAILORING
- Devise an Ericksonian induction for a given patient with a diagnostic concern.
- Establish how “tailoring” the hypnotic approach generates treatment that is specific to each client.
Week 7: MEDICAL HYPNOSIS
- Analyze the implications of hypnosis in the treatment of various physical illnesses.
- Practice the self-hypnosis technique to help reduce symptoms of physical illnesses.
Week 8: ADVANCED INDIRECTION
- Evaluate five “themes” that can be utilized to generate therapeutic stories.
- Determine occasions when indirection is contraindicated.
Week 9: INTEGRATION
- Analyze the importance of supervision and/or consultation in the ongoing acquisition of hypnotic expertise.
- Assess factors in determining when to use hypnosis versus other treatments in relation to assessment and treatment planning.
- Analyze considerations related to the utilization of hypnosis in treatment of personality disorders.

Week 5: Therapist Development Part 2
- Analyze concepts of perceptiveness and acuity as they relate to hypnotic psychotherapy
- Analyze multiple forms of acuity in hypnotherapy that can be used in the clinical setting
Week 6: Hypnotic Language
- Appraise interpersonal components that elicit response from clients during hypnotic psychotherapy sessions
- Consider the rationale for using indirect suggestions and binds during hypnotic psychotherapy
- Simulate indirect suggestion and binds with a client to be used in a clinical setting
Week 7: The Art and Science of Impact
- Articulate three methods of impact from the arts that can be applied in hypnotic psychotherapy
- Explore methods from the arts that can affect treatment, for a given patient’s problem or solution
Week 8: Advanced Techniques of Psychotherapy IV: Resilience, An Experimental Approach
- Explore resilience and the components of the resilient state as they apply to hypnotic psychotherapy
- Articulate the concept of attunement and its place in clinical hypnosis
Week 9: Making Therapy Visually Alive
- Apply hypnotic techniques to client treatment
- Communicate the concepts of knowing and responsibility within hypnotherapy
- Apply concept of responsibility to creating a hypnotic trance during a client session
