Kat Toups, MD, DFAPA, IFMCP, is a functional medicine psychiatrist treating cognitive impairment and dementia. Dr. Toups is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (the highest honor bestowed by the APA), and a certified practitioner with the Institute for Functional Medicine. Dr. Toups has been practicing psychiatry for over 30 years, and functional medicine psychiatry for more than a decade. She has been a featured speaker at national and international medical conferences on dementia and functional medicine psychiatry topics, as well as a frequent guest on podcasts and summits. She has been the principal investigator on over 100 clinical research trials. Her specialty is reversing dementia, and she recently collaborated with Dr. Dale Bredesen on a promising prospective clinical trial using a functional medicine/precision medicine approach to reverse mild cognitive impairment and early dementia, where 84% of patients had improvement, including their head scans. The paper was published in the prestigious Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease – July 2022, and two additional papers have been submitted for publication.
