Compassionate Approach to Addictive Processes: An IFS Lens on Substance Use, Eating, Gambling and More
Copyright :

When faced with clients who are struggling with addictive processes, the conventional wisdom is simple: refer them out.

However, the reality is clients frequently do not follow through with recommendations for group or intensive treatment, leaving you and your client with no viable options.

IFS offers an innovative approach for moving forward.

Alternatively, we view addictive behaviors as serving a vital function, protecting the client’s system from emotional pain by any means possible. Other protectors escalate the cycle with harsh inner attacks and self-recrimination, only adding to underlying self-loathing and trauma.

Join IFS expert and author Cece Sykes, LCSW, ACSW, for this experiential workshop to learn how to intervene in this cycle, create a collaborative clinical context, identify core IFS concepts, map and address addictive polarities, and set up safe access for addressing underlying trauma.
