DESCRIPTION:

 

The lecture and course materials will address the major research and important historical literature through the evolution of treatment protocols specific to non-offending caregivers of traumatized children and adolescents. The role of non-offending caregivers in the healing process will be explored, along with techniques and interventions targeting the specific needs and circumstances of non-offending caregivers. Various attachment patterns will be examined and identified to facilitate treatment planning. A variety of ethical considerations such as confidentiality will be studied to accommodate specific responsibilities to children, adolescents, and their caregiver(s).

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Consider the role of non-offending caregivers in the therapeutic process, and how they can contribute to engaging and maintaining participation of children and adolescents throughout the therapeutic process. 
  2. Communicate major research and important historical literature regarding ethical considerations in the treatment of traumatized children and adolescents.
