It’s increasingly common for one partner in a relationship to have certain erotic kinks, fetishes, or sexual fantasies that the other partner doesn’t share. These differences in erotic orientation run the risk of creating shame, betrayal, secrecy, and defensiveness that can lead to intense relationship distress. But it doesn’t need to be that way.
