DESCRIPTION:
The lecture and course materials will address the major research and important historical literature through the evolution of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM) for accurately diagnosing PTSD in children and adolescents exposed to traumatic experiences. Evidence-based assessments and treatment protocols to utilize with traumatized children and adolescents will be examined. The effectiveness of the different theories, models, and techniques (i.e. TF-CBT, family therapy, play activities, and expressive arts materials) targeting specific trauma-related symptoms in children and adolescents that can be utilized in a wide range of practice settings will be discussed.
