An introduction to the causes and types of respiratory failure and the benefits and uses of two specific types of respiratory support modalities used in the hospital setting: High flow nasal cannula and non-invasive positive pressure ventilation.

Bethany Heaton, PA-C, is a PA in Critical Care Medicine. She has been a PA outside Baltimore, Maryland for 8 years, spending the majority of that time specializing in critical care. In her ICU, the emergency department, and throughout the hospital as a team leader for rapid response, she is often the primary provider responsible for stabilizing critically ill patients.
