John Ludgate, Ph.D., outlines the prevalence of anxiety disorders and the clinical challenges presented by these disorders. A review of models of anxiety disorders which underlie different treatment approaches are discussed and the CBT model will be outlined and described in detail. The CBT for anxiety disorders evidence base is reviewed, both in terms of short-term and longer-term outcomes. Typical CBT strategies, used to treat anxiety, are identified - including those targeting cognitive change, arousal reduction and behavior change. Applications of CBT procedures and adaptations in standard CBT for anxiety disorders in children and younger clients are included.
