Description

  • How to best recognize and treat various infections
  • Answers to your questions on antibiotic use and resistance
  • The do’s and don’ts of specimen collection
  • Be in the know on the new HIV prevention method - PrEP
  • Intriguing case studies on new and emerging infectious diseases
  • The latest strategies to keep your patients (and yourself!) safe from the spread of disease

Imagine a patient walks into your facility with complaints of a persistent fever and chills, a cough, vomiting and diarrhea. Despite treatment with a cough medication, this patient has experienced these symptoms for several days, without any relief, after having been told initially that the symptoms would go away. As the nurse or provider who encounters this patient, what thoughts initially go through your mind? Is this just a common infection - or could this be something more serious? Should this patient be placed under isolation? What protective equipment must you prepare to use in the care of this patient?

Those responsible for patient care and treatment need to know which interview questions and assessment techniques will provide pertinent information. You are further challenged to remain up to date on the evolving diagnostic, treatment, reporting and safety guidelines. Cynthia Okoro, MS, APRN, FNP-C, will summarize the latest infectious disease guidelines and evidence to make sure you confidently deliver the very best in patient care!
