Description

Children, adolescents and young adults who are verbally and physically aggressive, tantrum, or don’t pay attention are impossible to effectively treat or teach. The severe behavioral challenges they exhibit sabotage our ability to help improve development, learning, and family life. But how do we help a child break through the self-regulation issues that limit their progress?

Join expert and author John Pagano, PhD, OTR/L, for this live webcast in which he guides you through the latest research on brain development and how to successfully integrate environmental adaptation, sensory modulation, positive behavior, and physical self-regulation activities to help young clients manage their intense feelings without inappropriate verbal, physical, or self-injurious behaviors. Drawing on extensive research and 31 year of clinical trial with children with complex behavioral challenges, Dr. Pagano will teach you:

  • Tools to differentiate sensory integration and behavioral challenges
  • Step-by-step developmentally sequenced activities for diverse levels (from severely developmentally disabled to highly capable) and across age levels
  • Interventions for the most problematic environmental and body triggers
  • Techniques to manage sensory overload and self-injurious behaviors
  • Strategies to teach frustration tolerance and reinforce appropriate actions
  • Sensory, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care to improve relationships and social skills
  • Movement strategies and role-playing games to manage intense feelings
  • Strategies to modulate arousal levels to decrease self-injurious behavior and suicidal ideation
  • Activities to be used in a variety of settings, including individualized, small group, and class-wide

Through engaging case studies with treatment videos, demonstrations, and hands-on activities you will leave this webcast with the essential skills and confidence to integrate individualized activity programs that are not only fun, but will significantly decrease disruption and improve learning!
