Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) helps with healing by removing excess secretions, drawing blood flow to the wound bed and keeping the wound moist. In 2014, we are faced with numerous options for NPWT - various models use gauze or foam or silver sponge; some recommend a lower suction, some are very portable and there is a model that uses no electricity or battery, only a spring to produce suction. In this session, you will learn how to navigate all of the options available. You will also learn about the evidence concerning combining NPWT with various other advanced wound care products and clinical wisdom about how to keep a seal yet protect the skin edges from damage and secondary fungal infections.
