Description

  • Solve the mystery of antisocial, narcissistic, histrionic and borderline clients
  • Make a clinical breakthrough with the most effective, evidence-based treatment methods for each disorder
  • Get inside the minds of challenging clients and manage treatment blockades

Join clinician and author, Dr. Arlene Montgomery, as she delivers an intensive workshop and seminar designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to accurately identify and treat your most difficult personality disordered clients. Address the neurobiological origins (around early attachment strategies) of antisocial, narcissistic, histrionic and borderline personality functioning and implications for clinical treatment, particularly the self-regulation issues as expressed within treatment alliance. Examine how early attachment may lead to predictable arousal regulation issues.

  • Antisocial personality issues: Address manipulative and possibly threatening antisocial behaviors.
  • Narcissistic personality issues: Explore the veneer of perfectionism, shame issues, and their need to control the therapist.
  • Histrionic personality issues: Navigate through intense emotions and need for attention.
  • Borderline personality issues: Address oscillating emotional states and behaviors such as explosive emotions/cravings for chaos and low affect states.

You will walk away with a clear understanding of these complex personality disorders and their neurobiological/attachment origins and how they manifest in your office. Dr. Montgomery will utilize case studies and video examples to illustrate client symptom presentation, treatment, and management of each Cluster B personality organization. With the knowledge and foundation of what creates therapeutic movement, this seminar will explore various aspects of modalities that have been found to be effective with antisocial, narcissistic, histrionic, and borderline personality disorders, such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive-Behavioral, Interpersonal, Psychodynamic and Dialectical therapies. Each of these theories will be explored to provide you with solid and useable skills to include in your daily practice, particularly around emotional regulation of arousal.
