Description

In-sessions with commentary of the Compassionate Inquiry approach to psychotherapy. They will demonstrate a clear focus on the impact of unresolved childhood trauma as the roots of many current problems in these participants’ lives and the way that creating a rich environment of self-compassion is a foundational step in recovery from anxiety, co-dependence, addiction, and ADHD.

Montana Counselors

The Montana Board of Behavioral Health no longer pre-approves any courses or sponsors. Each licensee is responsible for taking courses which contribute to their competence and directly relate to their scope of practice as defined in board statute (MAR 24-219-32). Licensees must keep CE documentation for three years in case of an audit. This intermediate level self-study activity consists of 5.5 clock hours of instruction.


Nevada Counselors

Outline

SESSION 1: An Introduction to Compassionate Inquiry with Gabor Mate
In this session, the founder of Compassionate Inquiry, Gabor Mate joins Rich Simon to share how his approach differs from other forms of psychotherapy and the core components that guide his work with every client he sees, as well as an overview of the kind of work you’ll watch Gabor doing in the coming sessions.


SESSION 2: “I Just Can’t Stop”: Using Compassionate Inquiry to Go Beyond Addictive Behaviors
In this session, we meet Elizabeth who has a long history of addiction, 21 detox centers and 5 treatment centers and continues to relapse. Watch as Gabor helps her see herself in a new way using the core principles of Compassionate Inquiry.


SESSION 3: “I Need to Protect Myself”: Using Compassionate Inquiry in Abusive Relationships
In this session, we meet Joanne who feels guilty for pushing her brother away because of behaviors caused by his addiction. She struggles with how to have a relationship with him and at the same time protect herself without feeling guilty. See how Gabor gently guides her to re-frame this problem and help resolve it in this one session.


SESSION 4: “Why is This Doing This to Me?”: Uncovering the Source of Anxiety and Panic with Compassionate Inquiry
In this session, Gabor works with Eleni who experiences intense anxiety, derealization, and panic attacks following a complicated medical condition. Even though that condition is now resolved, it deeply affected her sense of who she is. She feels vulnerable and scared now, and Gabor helps her identify the source of her anxiety and ways to begin to resolve it in this short session.


SESSION 5: “It’s OK to Tune Out”: The Secret Language of ADHD in Compassionate Inquiry
In this session, Gabor works with Renee who comes to him with a lifelong struggle with ADHD and the guilt and shame that often go along with it feeling like she is constantly tuning out and missing things. This is a condition Gabor works with often and has written about – see here as he gets creative and takes a completely different approach to helping her overcome ADHD and self-judgment using Compassionate Inquiry.
