Jeffrey Zeig, Ph.D. is the Founder and Director of Milton H. Erickson Foundation. Dr Zeig is the architect of The Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference, the Brief Therapy Conference, the Couples Conference, and the International Congresses on Ericksonian Approaches to Hypnosis and Psychotherapy. He is on the Editorial Board of numerous journals; Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 29, Psychotherapy); and Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. He is a Distinguished Practitioner in the National Academy of Practice in Psychology of the National Academies of Practice and an Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. A clinical psychologist, Dr. Zeig has a private practice, and conducts workshops internationally (40 countries). He has edited, co-edited, authored or coauthored more than 20 books on psychotherapy that appear in 12 foreign languages.

Stephen Lankton, MSW, DAHB, trained under Milton H. Erickson, M.D. from 1975 to 1979, and his efforts at promoting and interpreting Erickson’s approach to hypnosis and therapy at the highest academic levels resulted in the inclusion of chapters in several scholarly publications edited by other luminaries in the field. Stephen is a LCSW psychotherapist in a private practice in Phoenix, Arizona, the author of 18 books and he conducts workshops internationally in over 24 countries.

Week 1: The Metamodel of Psychotherapy & The Process of Ericksonian Therapy
  1. Communicate the primary question associated with each choice point in psychotherapy as it relates to clinical treatment
  2. Implement the five choice points into client therapy
  3. Articulate the historical basis of the therapist and hypnotherapy to guide hypnotic psychotherapy practices
Week 2: Confusion Technique & Amnesia
  1. Analyze the Confusion Technique as a destabilization technique used in hypnotic psychotherapy
  2. Articulate the guidelines for eliciting amnesia with clients during sessions
Week 3: Using Anecdotes in Therapy
  1. Communicate and simulate the methods of eliciting amnesia with a client in a clinical setting
  2. Articulate the importance of therapist orientation and “orienting-towards” the client in hypnotherapy
Week 4: Therapist Development
  1. Articulate methods of utilizing storytelling with clients during hypnotic psychotherapy for hypnosis induction
  2. Simulate storytelling as a hypnotic induction technique to use in the clinical setting
Week 5: Therapist Development Part 2
  1. Analyze concepts of perceptiveness and acuity as they relate to hypnotic psychotherapy
  2. Analyze multiple forms of acuity in hypnotherapy that can be used in the clinical setting
Week 6: Hypnotic Language
  1. Appraise interpersonal components that elicit response from clients during hypnotic psychotherapy sessions
  2. Consider the rationale for using indirect suggestions and binds during hypnotic psychotherapy
  3. Simulate indirect suggestion and binds with a client to be used in a clinical setting
Week 7: The Art and Science of Impact
  1. Articulate three methods of impact from the arts that can be applied in hypnotic psychotherapy
  2. Explore methods from the arts that can affect treatment, for a given patient’s problem or solution
Week 8: Advanced Techniques of Psychotherapy IV: Resilience, An Experimental Approach
  1. Explore resilience and the components of the resilient state as they apply to hypnotic psychotherapy
  2. Articulate the concept of attunement and its place in clinical hypnosis
Week 9: Making Therapy Visually Alive
  1. Apply hypnotic techniques to client treatment
  2. Communicate the concepts of knowing and responsibility within hypnotherapy
  3. Apply concept of responsibility to creating a hypnotic trance during a client session
