Proven Interventions for Challenging Kids with Dr. Ross Greene:
A 5-Session approach for explosive, noncompliant, disruptive, and aggressive behaviors

You feel like you’ve tried everything… yet the explosive and disruptive outbursts, non-compliance and aggressive behaviors continue.

If you feel defeated and exhausted trying to retain patience and compassion under what feels like impossible conditions, just imagine the feelings of discouragement, isolation and shame these kids must feel as they continue to struggle with social, emotional and behavioral challenges.

There is a better way — a solution that is providing hope to clinicians, educators, parents and kids around the world.

Based on decades of research and clinical practice, Dr. Ross Greene developed the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) approach. This evidence-based, trauma-informed model of care transforms angry, explosive and punitive interactions into collaborative and supportive exchanges in which problems can be solved and relationships rebuilt.

And now you can join Ross Greene for a unique online course where he will show you step-by-step how to implement CPS into your practice and work with children. Through narrated in-session demonstrations with real families, you'll learn about and see how to apply the crucial strategies that make this model an effective therapeutic tool.

Don't miss this opportunity to improve the lives of the most vulnerable and at-risk kids in your care...

Master Dr. Ross Greene’s empirically supported CPS model to help transform angry, explosive and punitive interactions between family members into collaborative and supportive exchanges in which problems can be solved and relationships rebuilt.

In this unique online course, you'll see real in-session videos featuring Dr. Greene helping parents and kids solve the problems that contribute to challenging episodes, rather than simply modifying the behaviors that kids exhibit in response to those problems. Through five comprehensive modules, Dr. Greene masterfully describes and utilizes the key elements of his Collaborative and Proactive Solutions model, and then steps back and explains the crucial strategies that make this model an effective approach to therapy

Module 1
Introduction to Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) Model for Challenging Kids
What is CPS, and how do you use it in your practice to improve the therapeutic outcomes of the kids and families you work with? In this module, you'll join Dr. Ross Greene as he walks you through the six key themes of the CPS model that help clinicians think differently.
  • Theme 1: Exploring the problems that cause maladaptive behaviors
  • Theme 2: Solving problems collaboratively instead of unilaterally
  • Theme 3: Using proactive strategies vs reactive strategies
  • Theme 4: Discovering what skills a child is missing before implementing treatment
  • Theme 5: Remembering that kids always do well if they have the skills to succeed
  • Theme 6: Understanding that doing well is preferable
Module 1
Introducing CPS to families: Type 1 Sessions
Building off of the foundational elements of the CPS model, in this Module you'll look at the more technical skills you need to apply the model to practice. You'll learn the 5 types of sessions to use with clients and the three plans you'll need for practice. Dr. Greene will walk you step-by-step through the Assessment of Lagging Skills and Unsolved Problems worksheet that serves as a masterful guide throughout your family sessions.
  • Using the Assessment of Lagging Skills and Unsolved Problems (ALSUP) worksheet
    • How to turn the ALSUP form into a ‘discussion guide,’ not a ‘checklist'
  • Strategies for gathering history information from parents and child to determine problems
  • Guidelines to naming unsolved problems
  • In-session demonstration: Type 1 session with Gabrielle and family
  • In-session demonstration: Using the ALSUP with Joshua and family
Module 1
The Three Plans to Solving Problems: Type 2 Sessions
When kids don't meet adult expectations, we need a plan. But the kids with behavioral challenges you work with often have so many problems, it's hard to know where to start. In this module, you'll learn how to build off your ALSUP worksheets directly with the child's caregivers to determine what problems are high priority and what problems are low priority. You'll also cover:
  • Three approaches to handling unsolved problems
    • Plan A: Caregivers decide the solution
    • Plan B: Caregivers and children collaborate to solve the problem
    • Plan C: Prioritizing unsolved problems
  • Introducing caregivers to the 3 steps of Plan B: The heart of the CPS model
    • Identifying and understanding the child's concern about a problem
    • Identifying and sharing the caregivers' concerns about the same problem
    • Working collaboratively to brainstorm solutions together to assess potential solutions that are mutually satisfactory
  • In-session demonstration: Type 2 session with Gabrielle's family
Module 1
Collaborative Problem Solving: Implementing Plan B with Type 3 Sessions
In this module, you'll be focusing on a deep dive into the heart of the CPS model: Teaching caregivers and children how to work through Plan B as a family unit. You'll access in-session demonstrations with two families experiencing different levels of conflict to see how Dr. Greene narrates and instructs each family through their first Plan B collaborative problem solving session. You'll gain insight into:
  • Keeping the sessions structured and families focused on the unsolved problem
  • Programming the family for independence with education
  • Identifying solutions that are mutually satisfactory and realistic
  • In-session demonstration: Implementing Plan B with Gabrielle and family
  • In-session demonstration: Implementing Plan B with Joshua and family
Module 1
Creating Independent Families: Coaching and Interference Sessions
In the final module, you'll learn how to move from instructor of the CPS model, to coach. You'll learn how to help promote independent, collaborative problem solving so the families in your care can learn how to apply their new skills outside of your office. You'll get strategies and insights in:
  • Identifying what part of the plan is difficult for families
  • Coaching families on how to use proper skills
  • Troubleshooting parts of the plan to help families achieve success
  • Helping families become self-sufficient in carrying out the plan for future unsolved problems
