Description

Communicating with a child about what they are experiencing mentally or physically and how to address those challenges can be difficult. It is important to get on their level in a manner a child and caregiver can both understand. In this lecture, we will discuss the biopsychosocial model of pain to elucidate the multiple facets of the pain experience. We take the ACE quiz and discuss how it can affect cardiometabolic and mental health later in life.  We will also discuss what this questionnaire is lacking to help us implement more comprehensive therapeutic approaches for health and resilience.

A child’s nervous system is under constant construction which provides a great framework for neuroplasticity and rapid changes for healing. We will provide a framework of brain development and social maturation as it applies to presentation of pain and effective therapeutic communication. We will utilize manual techniques to assist in improving mobility and sensorimotor integration. We will outline developmental-appropriate therapeutic approaches for effective communication, education, and tools for self-regulation to help a child live their best life.
