Module 1
Early Intervention for Autism:
Assessment & Treatment Strategies for Birth to 5
Feel confident you can recognize early and subtle signs of autism that are often missed in young children during this 6-hour session.

It’s difficult to tell if a child has the behavioral indicators of autism at such a young age, but what if you could catch them before they become deeply ingrained in a child’s neurological system? Stimming, sensory seeking, meltdowns, hyper-focusing, resistance to being held, underdeveloped communication, eating and sleeping challenges - these behaviors can be eradicated if you’re equipped with the right tools early on.

In Module 1, you'll learn from world-renowned autism expert, Susan Hamre, MA, CCC-SLP, to effectively recognize, intervene and replace coping behaviors of infants and young children. Walk away with customizable treatment plans, strategies to work with families and other support networks, evidence-based techniques, the ability to identify red flags and a profound confidence to help the children in your care at such a young age - even as early as 9 months!

Their lives will never be the same, thanks to you.

In the first module of this online course, you’ll discover treatment techniques that effectively interrupt and replace the development of many 'coping behaviors' exhibited by children with autism (ages 0-5), such as:
  • Meltdowns/tantrums
  • 'Stimming'
  • Sensory seeking/avoiding
  • Reduced engagement
  • Reduction of social reciprocity
  • Hyper-focusing
  • Resistance to cuddling/being held
  • Eating/sleeping challenges
  • Repetitive behaviors
  • Under-developed communication

Module 2
Autism Spectrum Meltdowns
Effective Interventions for Sensory, Executive Function and Social-Emotional Communication
This 6-hour session gives you a unique understanding of meltdowns and how to develop a crisis intervention plan from an insider's perspective.

Minor changes can trigger strong reactions in your client's life, and when they have a meltdown, everything you do can either help calm them or make it worse. Deborah Lipsky shows you how to recognize personal triggers, provides strategies to intervene before, during and after a meltdown, and gives you a rare glimpse into how your autistic client might interpret certain situations, thanks to her professional knowledge and personal experiences of living with autism.

This intense session will help you design sensory friendly environments, understand common challenges, and improve overall function with your clients. You’ll walk away feeling confident you can de-escalate the situation, differentiate between a meltdown and a behavioral tantrum, and properly communicate certain dysfunctions (such as communication) to your clients.

Deborah will walk step-by-step through how to determine:
  • What causes the unusually strong reactions of a meltdown?
  • Can you see it coming?
  • Is it a meltdown or a tantrum?
  • Is it willful, manipulative behavior?
  • Is ‘Fight or Flight’ the only option?

The individualized treatment and intervention plans you learn in this session can be the difference between calm and catastrophic!

Module 3
High-Functioning Autism:
Proven & Practical Interventions for Challenging Behaviors in Children, Adolescents & Young Adults
It's not just about managing the behaviors - successful independence is key!

Although high-functioning autism (HFA) may seem less severe than other forms, HFA can cause a lot of problems for your clients. Walk away with strategies to increase overall social-emotional success to help your clients build successful relationships with others, techniques to calm overstimulation, and interventions reduce anxiety, ADHD, OCD, and other addictions to things like technology. Plus, this training will dive into the effects of medications on your clients, and show you how to successfully approach life transitions and routine changes for those with HFA, which may also be helpful if adapted to other client types.

You'll learn effective treatment strategies to address co-occurring conditions such as:
  • Social and communication
  • Sensory
  • Anxiety/Rigidity/Non-compliance
  • ADHD/ADD
  • OCD
  • Psychotropic medications
Best of all - this session will help your clients manage their regulation, fears and behaviors overall to give them a better chance of independence after your care!

The Connection Between Autism and Vision (CE Video)
Hands-on Demonstrations of Therapeutic Techniques
A 1-hour session to give you a better understanding of the how the visual system affects clients with ASD and therapeutic activities to intervene.

The vision system isn't usually one of the key areas you look at when treating Autism Spectrum Disorders, but often times, the clients you're seeing are experiencing visual dysfunction, affecting coordination, awareness, fixation, vestibular function and much more. Autistic people often use visual information inefficiently and have problems coordinating their central and peripheral (ambient) vision.

This can also be true, to a lesser extent, of those who have Sensory Processing Disorder and ADHD. Through hands-on demonstrations you will learn therapeutic techniques to help improve central and peripheral vision coordination for better outcomes in clients with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This bonus session will dive into evidence-based techniques to improve central and peripheral vision coordination to increase your client's ability to process and respond effectively.
