You’ve been working with stroke patients for a while now, and you’re seeing how treatment requires a more complex plan of attack.

Maybe you’re just now getting into stroke rehab and have no idea how to approach your client’s treatment in the most effective way possible. No one wants to waste time, right?

Either way, treating stroke is complicated.

Patients exhibit a variety of impairments that encompass the physical and cognitive. The growing number of impairments is overwhelming when you’re trying to map a rehab plan.

And some patients - no matter how hard you try - don’t seem to respond.

The progress falls apart in less controlled environments. The patient isn’t responsive to your instructions. They grow more disengaged by the day.

It’s understandable if you get frustrated, even though you love working with this population.

The trick is feeling confident you can approach treatment with a wider understanding of why your patient isn’t responding well, and how to navigate their situation, so both of you can see progress. Discover how to create a comprehensive treatment plan in Stroke Rehab Master Class: Best Practices for Improved Outcomes.

Guided by 3 top stroke rehab experts, this online course will show you adaptable rehab interventions that give you a better understanding of the physical and behavioral implications of stroke, along with how to navigate them.

Walk away feeling confident you can:

  • Correctly identify the root cause of the impairment in your stroke patient
  • Apply advanced gait training and additional rehab techniques for better function
  • Re-engage a difficult or depressed patient
  • Overcome barriers to effective strategy implementation
  • Adjust your care plan for technological advances
  • Work with “pusher” patients
  • Use neuroplasticity-backed techniques to increase cognitive function

… and most of all?

Give your clients a way back to being themselves again when you enroll.

Stroke Rehab for Patients who “Push”:
Management Strategies for a Unique Patient Population

Positively Identifying "Pusher" Patients

Most stroke rehab focuses on a wide population but with that range comes a loss of working with pinpointed patient types, like pusher patients. Defining pusher patients is more complicated than you think, which is why in this module Dr. Michelle Green walks you step-by-step through the common misconceptions surrounding this type of patient, and how to properly identify them.

You'll dive deep into common characteristics you can expect, the frequency of this population, and the underlying reasons why "pushing" can occur in your stroke patients.

This module also shows you how to identify the impairment NOT the function, the models you need to work with them in the clinic, and strategies to eliminate common frustrations you have with pusher patients.

Prioritizing Problems: Assessment & Treatment of Pusher Patients

Module 2 focuses on how you can set up your treatment for success by reducing risk, improving safety, and moving your patients through the best treatments for successful outcomes. Dr. Green focuses on the impairment in her treatment strategies and walks you through hands-on assessments, and examples of commonly used compensation patterns.

Walk away able to confidently address the root causes of pusher syndrome with evidence-based treatment activities, develop and prioritize a problem list to attack first, and treat different levels of a "pusher".

Free 2-Part CE Session: Addressing Patient Behavior by Brain Lesion Site: Clinical Tools & Strategies Specific to Patient Deficits

What if you could assess your stroke patient's cognitive deficits before you ever met them? Your diagnosis could be quicker with an easier treatment process because you know the patient's behavioral pattern and can reduce barriers that limit engagement and progress.

This FREE bonus session introduces you to the complex neuroanatomy and turns this confusing subject into actionable interventions that can predict dysfunction and expedite stroke and other brain injury treatment.

Module 1: Neurophysiology and Cognitive Impact on Your Treatment

Part One of this session provides a simplified understanding of the brain's anatomy so that you have a stronger foundational approach to stroke treatment.

Usually, anatomy and terminology can be long-winded and difficult to stay awake for, but this comedic approach by Jerome Quellier, MS, CCC-SLP, turns this complex subject into an actionable and funny learning experience with real-life examples.

Dive into anatomy and terminology of the brain, including a section on the optic system, and how it affects your stroke patients. You'll also discover how neuroplasticity interventions in your stroke treatment plan can increase healthy development, learning, memory and recovery, improving the mind and the physical body of your patient.

Module 2: Function, Communication & Your Patient Relationship

Stroke, tumor, TBI, and neurodegenerative diseases can greatly impact the communication system and affect mood, motivation, memory, motor function, and executive functions in your client, so in the second part of this session, you'll gain a greater understanding of how your treatment plan can get the brain's nerves firing again!

The strategies you learn can increase your patient's ability to learn new techniques, safely judge surfaces and decrease falls, and much more, including:

  • Addressing agitation management strategies
  • The reasons why you patients might have difficulty recalling your verbal instructions or following your commands and what to do about it
  • How to enrich your patient relationship for better outcomes, shorter treatment times and a lot less frustration

After watching these sessions, you'll have greater knowledge of why the behaviors and difficulties you see are happening, how knowing this information can make it easier to properly assess from day one, and interventions that make addressing it much easier.
