Medical Diagnosis of Chronic Inflammatory Disease: Relationships of the Gut, Hormones & Sleep in Function
Jyothi Rao, MD
Join Internist, Dr. Jyothi Rao, author of Body on Fire and medical director of Shakthi Health and Wellness Center as she shares her approach to chronic inflammatory illness. Her unique methods have been shaped by 26 years in practice along with training in medical acupuncture and functional medicine. She will discuss the role of lifestyle choices and their impact in turning on and off inflammation in the body.

Special attention will be directed to the role of the autonomic nervous system in maintaining health as well as how stress can overwhelm our resources and lead to imbalance. She will also explore the role of the microbiome, gut/brain connection, cortisol, and how the breakdown of systems can lead to chronic illness. You will become an informed member of the healthcare team with an understanding of how functional medicine providers identify root causes and imbalances causing chronic illness.

Michelle Slater
Starving to Heal
Michelle Slater, PhD
Transitioning from a high-functioning societal member to a bedridden Lyme patient, Slater found herself disheartened by the necessity to "adapt to a new normal." Over the course of six years, she engaged in extensive research and pursued both conventional and alternative treatments as her Lyme disease and autoimmune condition progressively deteriorated. Presenting a firsthand narrative, she delves into the profound impact of chronic illness on her life and recounts the journey of navigating the healthcare system and becoming her own advocate.

In the end, Slater's recovery hinged on radical autophagy, also recognized as medical dry fasting. Employing dry fasting as a final recourse to combat her advanced late-stage Lyme disease, she reclaimed her life, an unforeseen miracle. This personal account serves as an inspirational narrative for healthcare practitioners and their patients, underscoring the potential for hope and recuperation even in intricate cases.

Discover how to identify and intervene against these culprits that serve as hidden barriers to success in your treatment outcomes. You will be able to confidently identify hidden causes of pain and inflammation as well as design a plan of care that addresses pain, decreased mobility, edema, and dietary considerations.
