John Robertson, PhD

John M. Robertson, Ph.D., is a psychologist whose career includes both university research and clinical practice. His publications have examined treatment issues in working with various populations of difficult-to-treat men. He has taught classes in clinical psychology and research design at both Kansas State University and the University of Kansas, and provided individual and group therapy at a university counseling center. For many years, he developed a fulltime clinical practice at the Professional Renewal Center in Kansas—an intensive treatment facility for professionals, most of whom are mandated to seek treatment because their authoritarian behavior at work threatens their careers. He currently conducts a private practice primarily for men in Lawrence, Kansas.

Dr. Robertson is a past president of the Society for the Psychological Study of Men and Masculinity, a division of the American Psychological Association. He has presented numerous workshops and symposia for psychotherapy professionals at national conferences. His most recent book is Tough Guys and True Believers: Managing Authoritarian Men in the Psychotherapy Room.
