Karen Gabel Speroni, BSN, MHSA, PhD, RN


Dr. Speroni has more than 25 years of experience in biomedical research, including work with academic medical centers, pharmacoeconomic consulting, contract research organizations, Institutional Review Boards, and evidence-based practice research in community hospitals within the Inova Health System (IHS), Shore Health Systems (SHS), and other hospitals. Currently she is responsible for developing and sustaining research programs for Magnet recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (Inova Loudoun Hospital achieved Magnet status in 2006 and Inova Fair Oaks Hospital and Shore Health System in 2009). In 2009, her childhood obesity research program, Kids Living Fit (TM), was profiled as an innovation of excellence by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. She also was a finalist for the Nursing Spectrum Excellence Award for Mentoring. Dr. Speroni has taught clinical research-related courses at Georgetown University, The George Washington University, and within the IHS.

Dr. Speroni holds a Doctorate in Business Administration, Health Care Management, a Master of Health Services Administration, Policy, Planning and Marketing, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She has authored numerous biomedical research manuscripts and abstracts and has presented her research findings nationally and internationally. She is a scientist on three Institutional Review Boards (Chesapeake Research Review, Inc., George Mason University, and Inova Research Center) and chairs a serious adverse events subcommittee.
