W. Robert Nay, Ph.D.

Clinical Psychologist and Associate Professor


W. Robert Nay, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist in private practice in McLean, Virginia, and Annapolis, Maryland. He is also a clinical associate professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Nay has written two graduate textbooks, numerous invited chapters and articles in professional journals and served as associate editor of the academic journal Behavior Therapy. He has trained over 3,000 mental health professionals in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) approaches to anger management and relationship issues.

Dr. Nay has appeared as an expert on Entertainment Tonight CNN-FN, Fox News with Geraldo Rivera, and Associated Press Radio. His research has also been covered by Web-MD, Child magazine's Child.com, ABC News, Cosmopolitan magazine, Natural Health, the Washington Post, and USA Weekend magazine.

His book Taking Charge of Anger: Resolving Conflict, Sustaining Relationships and Communicating Effectively Without Losing Control (Guilford, 2004) has been well-received; its second edition will be published in 2011. His newest book is Overcoming Anger in Your Relationship: How to Break the Cycle of Arguments, Put-downs and Stony Silences (Guilford, 2010).
